Terapia logopedica are in vedere rezolvarea tulburarilor de limbaj si comunicare. Acestea se pot manifesta astfel:

In aceste cazuri este necesara evaluarea complexa a copilului pentru stabilirea tulburarilor prezente si conceperea planului terapeutic in vederea eliminarii lor.
Consilierea parintilor este necesara deoarece ei vor fi implicati in terapia copilului, atat in cabinet cat si acasa.
Tulburarile de limbaj tratate de logopedie sunt: dislalia, alalia, rinolalia, disartria,disgrafia,dislexia,logonevroza, etc.
Sfera logopediei se extinde asupra tuturor tulburarilor de limbaj si a studiului comunicarii în cadrul relatiilor interumane de dezvoltare a personalitatii, înglobând treptat, în continutul si preocuparile ei, si pe cele ale foniatriei.
Logopedia înscrie în preocuparile sale asemenea deziderate si tocmai prin aceasta ea are, prin excelenta un caracter aplicativ: de prevenire si înlaturare a tulburarilor de limbaj, in vederea dezvoltarii psihice generale a persoanei de a stabili sau restabili relatii cu semenii sai, de a facilita insertia în colectiv, de a se forma si dezvolta pe masura disponibilitatilor sale.
Activitatea logopedica este centrata în special asupra copiilor nu numai datorita frecventei mai mari a handicapurilor de limba dar si pentru faptul ca la acestia vorbirea este în continua structurare si dezvoltare, iar dereglarile aparute au tendinta, ca o data cu trecerea timpului, sa se consolideze si sa se agraveze sub forma unor deprinderi deficitare ceea ce necesita un efort mai mare pentru corectarea lor si înlaturarea efectelor negative asupra comportamentului si personalitatii.
